Chapter 2: Fuuko is arguing with her mom in the morning about cellphones. Her mom reminds her that though they'll pay for the monthly fee, Fuuko has to buy the actual phone herself. Since Fuuko spent all her money on a bike, she can't have one. Behind them, Fuuko's brother is playing with his, and Fuuko gives him a boot ot the head, telling him not to intentionally, cruelly mail people right in front of her.

As she rides to school, she thinks that today is like any other but different, because yesterday she gained a new power-antigravity. She runs up the side of a school building and looks out at the sea, not surprised that 'someone' isn't there yet since he's the king of lateness. She thinks that in a different way from before, she has someone on her mind.

A little ways away, Funakoshi is also looking at the sea and yawning. He hears a bell, and realizing that school is starting, slides down off the banner balloon he was sitting on.

At school, Fuuko tells him that she's stopped trying to win the photo prize, saying when she looked closely, she saw that the closing date had already passed anyways. But she's thought of a new use for this power! She holds up a magazine for Funakoshi, and he reads an ad for a skateboarding contest, with a prize of 300000Y(3000$). She declares that with this power, any vertical wall is no problem, and too late Funakoshi realizes she has a skateboard and is trying it out. Fuuko gets halfway up the wall, loses momentum and starts sliding down with Funakoshi watching with dread. She falls off the wall completely, and lands on Funakoshi, who immediately sits up and asks her if she's alright. Fuuko, blushing(from embarrassment or being close to him, probably the latter)asks if he's okay, he was the one on the bottom, but he's more anxious about her, and is very relieved when she says she's fine, which makes her blush even more.

Funakoshi scolds her, saying only he can do the wall-riding thing, and she, as an amateur, shouldn't try to copy him. Fuuko agrees reluctantly, then notices that her shoe is gone, stuck in the tree(um, actually, when she's talking to him, she still has both on, I think we have a continuity problem here, Azuki-sensei!). Fuuko is glad that she can use her power though, but Funakoshi says he can do it faster, and jumps about 10 feet in the air to grab it, sticking his tongue out at her while he's doing it. Fuuko asks how he did that, and he says he made his body lighter, so that when he jumped normally, he went a lot higher than someone his weight could normally. Fuuko thinks it's great, and asks how she can do it, but Funakoshi says amateurs can't do this trick either. Fuuko consoles herself, saying that once she learns how, she can pretend she's 2-3kg lighter than she really is. Funakoshi says she can, but she shouldn't rely on something so short-lived. Fuuko wonders what he means, and he replies that once she stays away from him for a while, it will probably go away. Fuuko asks him what he means, but they're interrupted by the long-haired blond guy from before, who asks them what they're doing playing in the hall. Funakoshi calls him Natsuki, and Fuuko wonders if this guy was with Funakoshi at middle school as well. Funakoshi asks what he wants, and Natsuki tells him to go fetch Yumi. Funakoshi tries to protest, but Natsuki orders him to hurry up, and he goes. Fuuko is a bit pissed off at how Natsuki seems so bossy, but reflects that Funakoshi is pretty spinesless as well. Natsuki turns to Fuuko and glares, demanding to know what she's looking at. Fuuko is stunned for a moment, but recovers, retorting that guys who bleach their hair so much when they're young go bald fast.

When Funakoshi comes back with Yumi, Fuuko and Natsuki are pushing and pulling at each other like a kindergarten fight. Pulled apart, Natsuki shouts how annoying Fuuko is, who says that he started it. Natsuki tells Funakoshi to stop hanging around her, and Fuuko gets mad, asking what right he has to say stuff like that. The bell goes, and Funakoshi quickly changes the subject, reminding Natsuki that he wanted Yumi. Natsuki tells Yumi that he's going to skip the next period, and invites her. Yumi says 'But..." and Natsuki cuts her off, saying her class probably is just a long homeroom anyways, and practically makes her come. Fuuko really dislikes him now, making the top student Yumi skip class, but when he jumps out the window, followed by Yumi, she forgets what she was thinking, remarking to Funakoshi that this is the 4th floor. Funakoshi just looks exasperated, asking what will happen if someone sees them, but they disappear. Fuuko realizes and looks out the window when Natsuki calls her (calling her Buu-ko, and insult I guess), seeing them walk down the wall. Natsuki shouts back at her that just because she's acquired the same power as them, she shouldn't try to be friends with them.

As Fuuko sees red, Yumi and Natsuki have reached the ground, and Yumi says she knows that Natsuki really came to see what kind of person Fuuko was, and she doesn't think he should talk to her like that, Fuuko seems like a good person. Natsuki just leans down and kisses her, then, looking serious, says he doesn't want anyone getting near them just out of detached interest, and she shouldn't worry about anything.

In class, Fuuko remembers what happened after, Funakoshi telling her that both of the others got the power from him, and they've been together since middle school. She thinks that more than that shock, she's over-the-top angry at Natsuki, "that conceited jerk". She is relieved a bit that he and Yumi seemed to be going out, since that means Yumi and Funakoshi are just friends. Getting a bit sad, she thinks that though she doesn't want to admit it, Natsuki was right: just because she's gotten Funakoshi's power, she's still no closer to him than before. She wonders if they'll return to just classmates if she doesn't think of an excuse to be near him. Then the teacher asks for volunteers to organize participants into events for next month's ball game competition, and Fuuko, seeing her chance, quickly puts up her hand and pulls up Funakoshi's as well, waking him up.

Later on the basketball court, Funakoshi asks why it turned out like this, and Fuuko cheerfully tells him that he should make up for his usual somnolence by exercising. She happily thinks that now, they'll be at practice together everyday, and maybe with this Funakoshi will become part of the class more as well. One of the guys wonders if Funakoshi, who usually skips even gym class, will be alright for this, and Fuuko agrees, a bit worried. They're playing a practice game, and Fuuko, seeing Funakoshi standing around yawning, throws him the ball and shouts that if she does something, she intends to win! He's suddenly surrounded, and some sideliners comment on how dull he seems. Natsuki is also watching, and Fuuko shouts really loudly at Funakoshi not to stop, but to evade them!! Funakoshi assents, then, like a different person, quickly and skilfully dribbles through the opponents and jumps up for a basket. A bit shocked, Fuuko smacks him on the back, getting excited and praising him, and Funakoshi says he was impelled by her voice. Fuuko asks in an undertone whether he used 'it', but Funakoshi says no, and as he's surrounded by his teammates, Fuuko thinks that she's discovered an unlikely talent of his. She's startled out of watching him by a basketball to her butt, and she turns around to find Natsuki smirking, saying he thought it was Koto-no-Waka's butt(maybe a sumo wrestler? I don't know...). Fuuko is not happy that he's doing basketball as well, then examines her butt for damage, a bit red-faced at the insult.

That night at home, Fuuko weighs herself and thinks that she's not really fat, but she could stand to lose 2 kg(it's so funny when manga characters say this when they have limbs like toothpicks). She tries to will herself lighter, and thinks that the needle is moving strangely, when her brother sticks his head in asking if she's done yet, stopping her and getting a clothes basket in the noggin. Then she thinks that she won't give up just because of that conceited jerk's condemnation. The next day, she's up on the roof eating lunch with Funakoshi, along with Natsuki and Yumi. Natsuki throws his choptick at her, asking why she's up there as if it's normal, and Fuuko retorts that she likes it up here, the air is clear and you can see the sea. She calls Funakoshi, saying that he's always staring out the window at it during class, and asks if he likes the sea. Funakoshi is silent, then Natsuki tells him to get some drinks for him and Yumi. Fuuko asks why he's acting so great, then stops and asks Funakoshi why he's just obediently doing what Natsuki tells him. Funakoshi says it's close anyways, and while Fuuko protests, Natsuki beans her with a can. Funakoshi is gone, and Natsuki tells her she really puts her foot in her mouth, and orders her to get lost. Fuuko is taken aback at this attack, and asks what right he has to say that to her, and Natsuki says fine, he'll just order Funakoshi not to talk to her or hang around her. Natsuki says if he's really serious, Funakoshi won't defy him, and dares Fuuko to try it out. Fuuko loses her temper, and asks if Natsuki is using some weakness of Funakoshi's, adding that she won't give in to threats from such a coward. Shaking, she shouts that she likes Funakoshi, and if Natsuki wants her to stay away, he'll have to compete against her like a man! Funakoshi arrives back just in time to hear her challenge Natsuki, declaring that the competition will be to get the most points at the ball competition, and if she loses, she'll never come near Funakoshi again!
