Chapter 5:

Fuuko is thinking back to her conversation with Ruka, when he admitted he liked Yumi, but he wants her and Natsuki to be happy.  He made Fuuko promise not to tell her, though she's pretty sure that Natsuki knows already.  She thinks about Yumi, and considers how beautiful and smart she is, deciding that it's only natural to fall in love with her.  It cuts to a scene with Yumi and Fuuko, and Fuuko tells Yumi it's not fair, Yumi has a cell phone(though Fuuko broke it), a boyfriend(though he's a jerk), she has nice straight hair...then Fuuko comments that in the photo she saw Yumi had long hair, and she asks why she cut it.  Yumi says that Natsuki likes short hair better, and she'll do anything for him.  Fuuko is struck by how cute she is, and hugs her, before Natsuki arrives and pounds Fuuko on the head for getting too familiar with Yumi.  Fuuko reflects back to when Ruka said Yumi only sees Natsuki, and thinks a bit guiltiliy that she's relieved by it.

Later, Fuuko comes upon Ruka on the roof, with Choro sleeping on Ruka's chest.  She notes that Ruka is good at taking care of Choro, even for an animal lover, and Ruka says he's not really, it's just that Choro resembles himself.  Choro not letting anyone close to him is like him in middle school, keeping his distance from his classmates and not having real friends.  When he first found Choro, it took him a long time to gradually get Choro's trust, and because it was a gradual, slow building of friendship, Ruka values it highly.  Fuuko thinks that he values Yumi & Natsuki the same way, and hopes that she's included in that as well.

Choro wakes up and seems upset at some men who are searching the bushes down below.  Ruka assumes that it's some more people checking out the wall-climbing ghost story, and cautions Fuuko to be careful about using her power.

That Sunday, Fuuko goes to the diving shop to return their towel and runs into Natsuki & Yumi.  Natsuki says he's feeling nostaligc about the sea lately, and is thinking about starting surfing or wakeboarding.  Fuuko asks about diving, and he says, not looking at her, that he's tired of that.  Yumi suggests to Fuuko that Ruka might be at school feeding Choro, and Fuuko happily goes off to check it out.  As she bikes off, Natsuki remarks how kind Yumi was and asks if she's trying to set them up.  Yumi replies that their relationship is up to them, but she thinks that Ruka needs someone that will just see him.  Natsuki embraces her, and asks if she's just seeing him, and she pauses and then says yes.

Ruka is indeed at school, and Fuuko thinks that Yumi is so nice she feels guilty for being envious of her.  Choro is below digging holes.  Fuuko wonders how long Ruka has liked Yumi, and asks him if diving is fun.  He says yes, it's like floating in the air the way she was with the balloon, with blue everywhere, and near coral, the fish aren't scared at all, so you feel like even if you got attacked by a shark it would be worth it (Lijaka: Really?  I don't think so, I'd rather not be attacked, thanks)  Fuuko thinks it sounds awesome and asks Ruka to teach her, but he says no, he decided not to enter the sea anymore.  Fuuko is going to ask why, but is cut off by Choro's barking.  They look down to see two men catching Choro in a net.  Fuuko notices their car nearby, and Ruka has already jumped over the railing in pursuit.  Ruka catches one of them while the other escapes in the car with Choro, and the guy says they thought it had escapes from a petshop.  They already have a buyer from the Net, and are handing it over at N station today for $4000.  Fuuko is dismayed, but Ruka just jumps off onto a roof and starts running after them.  He shouts that it's faster to get to N Station as the bird flies, and Fuuko jumps after him.  She's never seen Ruka so serious before.  They catch sight of the car, and it's at a red light, but as they run up to it, the light turns and it takes off.  Fuuko uses her power and jumps onto the hood, thinking that in her own way, she's doing all she can for Ruka as Yumi does for Natsuki.  She doesn't want Ruka to be sad, so she'll do anything to prevent it.  She sticks her head over the roof edge and scares the guys inside, causing the car to swerve.  Fuuko falls sideways, but jumps off a wall to land feet first and safe.  She retrieves Choro from the car, but one of the guys still tries to get the cage from her, and suddenly Choro runs out onto a telephone pole-vertically!  Then Ruka lands on the guy's head, and tells him to give up, or he'll really get angry.  The guys leave, having crashed their car, and Fuuko tries to get Choro down, discussing with Ruka that the power even transfers to animals.  Ruka worries that Choro will trust humans even less after this, when Choro leaps down onto Fuuko's head, and then plays with her hair.  As the cops arrive and our heros take off, Fuuko decides to keep trying to slowly get closer to Ruka, hoping that he'll eventually let her into his life.
