Chapter 9:

Konami Fuuko, 16 years old, a normal high school girol who worries about her hair and not having enough money, has finally had her first kiss with the boy she likes, BUT…everyone has arrived at Okinawa, and while the man in charge welcomes them, Fuuko wonders why, in the month since she's kissed Ruka, absolutely nothing has been resolved.  Ruka acted totally normal and doesn't seem to be thinking anything, so she went along with it.  Ruka tells her he’ll show her how to handle the diving apparatus in the store where they’ll work and says to come along.

In their room, Fuuko tells Yumi about the kiss, and Yumi is surprised that Fuuko is the one who kissed Ruka and not the other way around.  Yumi is impressed, and Fuuko tells her that since then, nothing has been said and she doesn’t know what to do.  She asks what Yumi did, and Yumi tells Fuuko that she and Natsuki became a couple when they were diving together and Natsuki kissed her underwater. Yumi says that’s how she knew of Natsuki’s feelings, so Ruka must surely think something about Fuuko now.  Fuuko isn’t so sure, and Yumi comments that she and Natsuki are very alike in their straightforward expression of their feelings; the opposite of her.  Yumi pensively says that she’s bad at showing her feelings, so sometimes she causes Natsuki anxiety.  Listening, Fuuko thinks that she, being inexperienced in love, she doesn’t notice, but she guesses that even with couples that look as lovey’dovey as Natsuki and Yumi, there are problems…

Natsuki is waterskiing behind Ruka’s jet ski, and he falls when Ruka turns sharply.  Natsuki complains, and Fuuko thinks there’s no way such an overbearing guy is ever anxious about anything.  She shouts at him to let her try, and he sticks his tongue out, telling her, a  first-timer, to keep quiet.  Fuuko gets mad and says she’ll cover her lack of skill with her natural physical ability, and proposes they have a contest.  Of course, Fuuko is great, and does an amazing jump that has Natsuki angry because she’s using her power.  She says of course, there’s nothing wrong with that, and if she doesn’t fall within five minutes, he has to treat her to a soba dish.  Ruka, exasperated, suggests to Yumi that they leave them to it, and is surprised when Yumi says Fuuko is lucky, she wishes she could have fights with Natsuki like that.

In the shower Natsuki complains that Fuuko is not a girl(she obviously just beat him^_^), and looking serious, Ruka asks him why he brought them all back here.  Natsuki looks at him, but then says there’s no special reason.

Fuuko is moving tanks in the diving shop and thinks that they’re really heavy, she’s surprised that people dive with such heavy things on their back. She glances at a blown-up photo on the wall of an underwater scene, and thinks it’s beautiful.  She wonders if in the sea it’s all like this, even what Ruka and the others used to see, and Natsuki enters with fishing gear and tells her that Ruka took that picture.  He reflects that Ruka’s not his uncle’s nephew for nothing, although Natsuki is the one who taught Ruka how to dive.  Fuuko looks at him and pointedly asks about his work, since he’s obviously planning on skipping out.  Natsuki is dismayed, and asks if she’ll keep quiet if he brings her along.  Fuuko eagerly agrees.  Elsewhere, Yumi tells Ruka where the others are, and Ruka asks if Yumi didn’t want to go as well, but she says it’s the place where…

Natsuki and Fuuko go fishing near a cliff, and Natsuki says that Okinawa is the best place for diving, when he brought Yumi and Ruka here 2 years ago they were impressed as well.  Fuuko asks if he’s dived elsewhere, and he says yes, before his dream was to dive in all the world’s oceans.  Fuuko recalls that he said before that he just got tired of it.  She comments on how he used diving to have his frist kiss with Yumi, and Natsuki is embarrassed that she knows, saying that even though he kissed her first, it was Yumi who told him to go out with her.  Fuuko can’t believe it, and thinks that she’s discovered another new truth.  She thinks it’s unfair that the three of them have this past without her that she can never know, even though she really want to.  There are so many things like what happened two years ago with Natsuki’s accident, and why Ruka hasn’t answered her yet…  Fuuko loses her concentration and catches her fishing line in a tree halfway up the cliff.  Ruka and Yumi notice them from the shore, and Fuuko worried that the line is totally caught..  Then she thinks of a solution and starts to walk up the fishing line, thinking it would be easier this way.  All of the others watch, horrified.  She gets up safely to the tree and picks something up that catches her eye.  However, she's made her body so light that a gust of wind blows her off the line, and Yumi is frozen in terror.  Fuuko tells herself to calm down, if she makes herself as light as possible the impact shouldn’t be too great, but Ruka, wallking on the water, catches her before she hits.  He looks upset, and tells her not to change her weight.  When they get back to the boat, Ruka throws her down and shouts at her, seriously angry, demanding what she’s doing at a place like this.  Fuuko, surprised, apologizes, and notices that Ruka is shaking.  Then she sees Yumi knelt down on the shore, and wonders if possibly this is the place…Ruka calls Yumi’s name and goes running to her, and Natsuki and Fuuko see that she’s really distressed.

Later, Yumi is in bed, and Ruka says she’s calmed down.  Fuuko apologizes once more to Ruka and everyone for reminding them of bad memories, and says that’s where Natsuki had his accident before, right?  Ruka doesn’t answer but after facing away, looks back and with a fake smile apologizes for shouting at her.  He says he has to speak to the owner and leaves.  Natsuki says Ruka is an idiot, the person who had the accident(Natsuki) is right here and doing great, so there’s no reason to be so concerned about it.  Fuuko gets mad, saying it’s only natural Ruka feels guilty because Natsuki fell in part because of the power that he got from Ruka, and Natsuki retorts that he’s told Ruka not to worry about it so he shouldn’t.  He says Yumi is more understandable because she saw his accident when it happened.  Then Fuuko remembers what she found, and shows a small dolphin pendant to Natsuki and asks if it has anything to do with the accident.

In the bedroom, Ruka asks Yumi if Fuuko is there, but she’s not, so he says he’ll leave some drinks on the side table.  Yumi tells him that she thinks the reason why Natsuki brought them back here is to resolve the accident for good, because she still can’t forget.

Outisde, Natsuki is amazed at Fuuko’s 'animal instinct' and explains: The pendant is Yumi's, and it’s important to her – Ruka gave it to her.  He continues, saying that even before Yumi got along better with Ruka than him, and he got worried, that’s when he kissed her.   Ruka got the pendant as an extra in a store even though he didn’t want it, and Natsuki saw him get it.  Later, he caught Yumi starting to climb down the cliff trying to get something ‘important’, and he said he would get it for her.  She told him it probably caught on the tree, so he went down thinking how strange it was that Yumi got so worked up over something, but when he saw it was Ruka’s pendant, he lost his concentration and fell.  Natsuki tells Fuuko that from his fall, he lost some of his hearing in his right ear,  and she remembers when he said he couldn’t hear her talking to him when his left ear had an earphone in it.  Natsuki goes on to say that it doesn’t make much of a difference in his everyday life, but the doctor told him he couldn’t dive anymore.  Soon after that, Yumi told him to go out with her.  Fuuko is shocked, thinking that maybe the reason that Ruka hasn’t given her an answer yet is that he still likes Yumi
